(Monday, August 17, 2015) To draw global attention to South Florida’s burgeoning entrepreneurial ecosystem, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance announced today that it will serve as the Host Sponsor of SUP-X: The StartUp Expo, an international conference for entrepreneurs and investors being held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center February 16-17, 2016.

SUP-X (pronounced "Soup-X") aims to be the premier North American annual conference bringing together startup and early-stage entrepreneurs, angel investors, venture capitalists and related service providers. SUP-X is being produced by Trident Global Advisors of Coral Gables, and has been produced for the past two years for the Boca Raton-based Gold Coast Venture Capital Association (GCVCA) as "The GCVCA Expo."  The 2015 event attracted more than 600 attendees from four countries and nine states.

Bob Swindell, President and CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance said, “We are thrilled to be both the host location and Host Sponsor of the SUP-X conference. At the heart of the super-region that is Southeast Florida, Greater Fort Lauderdale is perfectly positioned to unite and propel startup activity, and share the stories of our thriving entrepreneurial landscape.”
Bob Fitts, founder and producer of SUP-X and President of the GCVCA said, "There is a need for an event in North America specifically focused on the pre-Series A entrepreneur and investment community and few, if any, events anywhere that are focused on startups have the scale, reach and depth of content that SUP-X will provide.  It will be a fantastic venue for startup and early-stage entrepreneurs and angel and VC investors to learn how to hone their respective crafts and to connect with other investors and entrepreneurs from throughout North America” he said. “This is also a great chance to show those coming to SUP-X from afar why South Florida is such a great place to build and scale information economy businesses,” said Fitts, “and that’s one reason why having the Alliance as our Host Sponsor is such a privilege.

The mission of SUP-X is to connect pre-Series A entrepreneurs, investors and service providers from throughout North America.  The GCVCA’s mission is similar in that it seeks to connect these same audiences in Florida’s Gold Coast (Palm Beach to Miami).  “The Alliance does an outstanding job of shining a bright light on Broward County and South Florida and it is dedicated to growing the area’s entrepreneurial and technology ecosystem.  That obviously coincides with both the mission of SUP-X and the GCVCA’s mission, so partnering with the Alliance is a natural fit.  We’re delighted and really honored to have the Alliance as our Host Sponsor,” said Fitts.

SUP-X is expected to draw 1500 attendees in 2016 and will open with a special pre-conference forum for women entrepreneurs and investors, to be followed by intensive workshops for entrepreneurs on topics vital to helping them succeed in proving, scaling and financing their businesses.  SUP-X will also feature a well-funded startup competition offering 50 semi-finalists complimentary space in the event’s 50,000 square feet exhibition hall alongside corporate sponsors.  SUP-X also offers investors unique and exclusive opportunities to meet with other investors from throughout North America to develop deal flow and partnership opportunities, while providing them with a selection of well-curated startups to consider for investment.  With more than 1500 entrepreneurs and investors in attendance, SUP-X will provide excellent networking and relationship opportunities for service providers interested in these communities.

Fifteen nonprofit organizations devoted to entrepreneurship from Florida and around the nation have already signed on as Alliance Partners of SUP-X, including: Career Source Broward / Startup Quest, the Florida Venture Forum, FAU Tech Runway, LaunchCode and the South Florida Technology Alliance.
