The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance will be a host sponsor of an international conference for entrepreneurs and investors.
SUP-X: The StartUp Expo, is scheduled for Feb. 16-17 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.
SUP-X (pronounced "Soup-X") aims to be the premier North American annual conference bringing together startup and early-stage entrepreneurs, angel investors and venture capitalists.
"Greater Fort Lauderdale is perfectly positioned to unite and propel startup activity," said Bob Swindell, president and chief executive of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance.
Bob Fitts, founder and producer of SUP-X and president of the Gold Coast Venture Capital Association, said there is a need for an event in North America specifically focused on the startup entrepreneur and investment community.
SUP-X is expected to draw 1,500 people and will open with a pre-conference forum for female entrepreneurs and investors, followed by workshops for entrepreneurs on topics including scaling and financing their businesses.
The event also will feature a startup competition offering 50 semi-finalists complimentary space in the event's 50,000-square-foot exhibition hall, alongside corporate sponsors.
Fifteen nonprofit organizations devoted to entrepreneurship from Florida have signed on as Alliance Partners of SUP-X, including Career Source Broward and its program Startup Quest, Florida Venture Forum, FAU Tech Runway, LaunchCode and the South Florida Technology Alliance.
